The short version: this site sets no cookies, shows no ads and follows nobody around the web. Visits are only counted if you allow it. If you write to Emil, he uses what you send to answer you, and for nothing else.
The long version follows. It tells you which data this website handles, why, on which legal basis under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), who receives it and how long it is kept.
Who is responsible
The controller in the sense of the GDPR is:
Emil DellertHaarweg 11
48485 Neuenkirchen
Germany
Email: contact@emildellert.com
Emil works alone, so no data protection officer has to be appointed. Write to the address above with any question about your data.
Visiting the site
This website is hosted by Vercel Inc., 440 N Barranca Avenue #4133, Covina, CA 91723, USA. When you open a page, your browser sends the data every web server needs in order to answer, and Vercel processes it on Emil's behalf:
- your IP address
- date and time of the request
- the page or file requested, and the page you came from if your browser sends it
- browser type, operating system and language
- the status and size of the answer
This is needed to deliver the site, to keep it stable and to fend off attacks. The legal basis is Article 6(1)(f) GDPR. The legitimate interest is a working and secure website. Emil does not combine this data with anything else and does not use it to identify you. Vercel deletes these log entries automatically, after three days at the latest.
Vercel acts as a processor under a data processing agreement (Article 28 GDPR). For some technical data that Vercel needs to run and secure its own network, Vercel is responsible itself. Details are in Vercel's privacy notice.
Films, music and images
The films, tracks and images on this site are stored with the content platform Sanity (Sanity US Inc., 351 California Street, Suite 650, San Francisco, CA 94104, USA) and come to your browser from its delivery network at cdn.sanity.io. To send you a file, that network has to see your IP address and the technical request data listed above. Nothing else is sent, no cookies are set, and playing a film or a track is not recorded in a profile.
The legal basis is Article 6(1)(f) GDPR. The legitimate interest is to show large media files quickly and reliably. Sanity acts as a processor under a data processing agreement and deletes or anonymises its logs within 90 days.
Fonts and icons are served by this website itself. No requests go to Google Fonts or to any other font service. The site embeds no players or widgets from YouTube, Vimeo, Spotify or social networks.
Writing to Emil
The contact form
The form asks for your name, your email address and your message. All three are needed to answer you. When you press Send, the following happens:
- The website's own server checks the input and gives your message a reference number.
- Emil receives your message by email.
- Your name, email address, message, the time and the page you sent it from are saved as one row in a private Google Sheets spreadsheet that only Emil can open. It is his list of inquiries.
- You receive one confirmation email with a copy of your message. It contains no advertising, and no further emails follow unless Emil answers you.
The legal basis is Article 6(1)(f) GDPR. The legitimate interest is to read and answer the messages people send, and to keep them in one place until they are dealt with. No separate consent is asked for, because your data is used for nothing else.
Two service providers work for Emil here, each as a processor under a data processing agreement:
- Google Cloud EMEA Limited, 70 Sir John Rogerson's Quay, Dublin 2, Ireland (Google Sheets in Google Workspace, storage of the inquiry list)
- Plus Five Five, Inc., trading as Resend, 2261 Market Street #5039, San Francisco, CA 94114, USA (sending the two emails). Resend stores sent emails in the USA and deletes them after 30 days.
To keep spam out, the form has a hidden field that only automated programs fill in, measures how fast it was filled in, and limits how many messages one IP address can send within a few minutes. This happens on the website's own servers at Vercel. No captcha service is used and nothing is stored on your device. The legal basis is Article 6(1)(f) GDPR. The legitimate interest is a usable inbox.
If you write an email instead, Emil processes your address and whatever you write in order to answer you, on the same legal basis.
How long inquiries are kept
Emil deletes inquiries, in the list and in his mailbox, once the matter is settled, and at the latest six months after the last message. If a job comes out of it, the messages become part of his business records, which German tax law (§ 147 of the Fiscal Code) requires him to keep for six years, and invoices and similar records for eight years.
You do not have to provide any data. Without a name, an email address and a message, however, Emil cannot answer you.
Visitor statistics, only if you allow them
Emil would like to know how many people visit and which pages they look at. For that this site uses Vercel Web Analytics, a service of Vercel Inc. (address above). It runs only after you choose Okay in the small notice that appears on your first visit. If you choose No thanks, or choose nothing, it never loads.
If you allow it, the following is recorded for each page view: the time, the address of the page, the page you came from, your country, and your type of device, operating system and browser. The service sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device. It tells visitors apart with a short-lived code that is worked out from your request, reset every day and never used across days or across websites. Emil only sees totals, never single visitors.
The legal basis is your consent (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR and § 25(1) TDDDG). You can withdraw it at any time with the link Privacy settings at the bottom of every page. Counting stops at once; what was counted lawfully before stays valid. Vercel acts as a processor here as well.
Cookies and storage
This website sets no cookies. One small entry is kept in your browser's local storage: your answer to the question above (allow or no thanks), so you are not asked on every page. It contains nothing that identifies you and is needed to respect your choice (§ 25(2) no. 2 TDDDG). There is no advertising and no tracking across websites.
Links to other sites
The links to Instagram and LinkedIn are plain links. Nothing is loaded from those networks while you are here, and they learn nothing about your visit unless you click. Once you do, the privacy rules of the network you land on apply.
Data outside the EU
Vercel, Resend and Sanity are US companies, and Google may involve its US parent, Google LLC. The USA is a third country under the GDPR. The safeguards are:
- Vercel, Resend and Google LLC are certified under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework, for which the European Commission has found adequate protection (Article 45 GDPR, Implementing Decision (EU) 2023/1795). In addition, their data processing agreements contain the EU standard contractual clauses (Article 46(2)(c) GDPR), which apply should that decision fall away.
- Sanity is not certified under the framework. The transfer rests on the EU standard contractual clauses in Sanity's data processing agreement.
You can ask Emil for a copy of these clauses.
Your rights
You can ask Emil at any time, free of charge, to:
- tell you whether he holds data about you, and give you a copy (Article 15 GDPR)
- correct data that is wrong (Article 16)
- delete your data (Article 17)
- restrict how it is used (Article 18)
- hand your data to you or to someone else in a common format (Article 20)
- withdraw a consent you gave, with effect for the future (Article 7(3))
Your right to object (Article 21 GDPR)
Apart from the visitor statistics, which rest on your consent, everything on this page rests on a legitimate interest (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR). You can object to any of it at any time, for reasons that arise from your particular situation. Emil then stops, unless he can show compelling legitimate grounds that outweigh your interests, or the processing serves legal claims.
An email to contact@emildellert.com is enough for any of these.
There is no automated decision-making and no profiling on this site.
Complaints
You can complain to a data protection authority, in particular where you live or work (Article 77 GDPR). The authority responsible for Emil is:
